Xiaomi MIUI 12: Top Features

Reinforced privacy protection:

Xiaomi MIUI 12 also introduced new privacy features. As a result, you will be able to get better control over permissions, which are required by apps to functions. According to Xiaomi, Individual app permissions include a wider range of options like giving certain permissions “While using the app” and “Notify” when an app is using another service, along with the previously available options.

Moreover, the “While using the app” mode also includes permissions for access to the camera, microphone, call history, contacts, calendar, and others. Plus, you can also remove location metadata from photos.

Design and animations:

Xiaomi has said that they have revamped the UI design of MIUI 12 and refreshed the system-wide animations. And now, it uses the Mi Render Engine to make switching between apps pretty smooth. Moreover, each screen has now been made for informative and comprehensive.

According to Xiaomi, “Data is perceived more intuitively when it’s presented in graphics. Visualizations save time and make the interaction with the mobile device more intuitive and efficient.”

Moreover, MIUI 12 also brings you a more simplified interface and new navigation gestures. Along with that, you will get access to the Super Wallpaper feature, which helps you with “stunning reconstructions of iconic planetary landforms” using NASA’s official imagery.

Multitasking:

Xiaomi MIUI 12 has improved multitasking a lot by adding floating windows. When you are navigating using the full-screen gestures, you will find a floating window for apps. As a result, it will be easy for you to go to other apps. You can also close or resize the floating window. If you get a message while on you are doing something else on your phone like watching a video, the message can be opened up in a floating window allowing you to reply without having to pause the video and switch over to the messaging app.

Ultra Battery Saver:

You are also getting access to an ultra battery saver mode. Battery saving mode is nothing new to smartphones. However, the ultra battery saver mode will restrict the more power consuming features. And it will not affect calls, messages, and network connectivity at all. As a result, this will extend the phone’s battery.

MIUI 12 adds what Xiaomi is calling an ultra-battery saver mode. As the name suggests, the ultra-battery time and reduces power consumption. As a result, you will be able to enjoy extra battery life.

App Drawer:

There is also an app drawer that you are getting with the latest MIUI. In MIUI, we usually get to see an iPhone home screen with the absence of an app drawer. However, with the MIUI 12, now you will have the option to turn on or app the app drawer depending on your preference. By enabling the app drawer, MIUI will free up the home screen, and all the other installed apps will be placed under a single place. Moreover, apps can also be grouped automatically. As a result, it will be super easy for you to find them. Xiaomi says this app drawer comes from the Poco Launcher present in the Poco smartphones.

Dark Mode:

In the end, there is the Dark Mode. With the Xiaomi MIUI 12 you will be getting an enhanced dark mode, which changes the color palette for system backgrounds, system apps, and third-party apps to a darker theme. Moreover, it also allows you to choose the contrast to match the ambient light. Xiaomi says Dark Mode reduces power consumption and minimizes eye strain.
